Body positive self portraits

Yeah, I Got Big Arms! So What?

Clients come to me because they like my work. I can pose you, direct you, and edit your photos to make you look your most flattering. But what’s more important to me is how you feel. Of course, I want you to be happy with your photos. But I also want us to be on a journey of self-love together.

Yes, I’m a photographer, but I’m a person first. It’s important to me that my clients feel seen, valued, and loved in the skin they’re in. Nothing is wrong with you.

So, to practice what I preach, this set is called "Yeah I got big arms! So what?" and is dedicated to embracing my body as it as.

A lot of people are taught to hate their arms and worry that they’re “too big.”

I remember watching The Tyra Banks Show after school, where women were doing workouts with household items because they were afraid of getting big arms.

Being big was one of the scariest things I could grow to be. And now, here I am. But instead of worrying about my angle to the camera, I choose worry about how I feel in my body.

What does joy feel like? What does acceptance feel like? I have big arms. My camera angle isn’t going to change that.

Of course, I can pose in ways that make them less prominent. But why should I limit my options because society says women are supposed to be slender? I don’t believe in that harmful ideology…So let me take the cute side-profile photos.

Let me take up space. Let me exist in photographs without first asking whether every part of me looks “flattering.”

Because my arms have a much greater purpose than being something I stress about.

These are the arms I use to hug the people I love. The arms I use to create art. The arms that can land a basketball in a hoop. The arms I use for sick high fives!

These arms hold people. They make things. They play. They love.

They are mine.

I choose to refuse to believe that the parts I’ve been taught to dislike make me any less worthy of being seen.

So yeah, I got big arms. So what?
